Escambia County Mission – To provide
efficient, responsive services that enhance our quality of
life, meet common needs, and promote a safe and healthy community.
The Division of Emergency Management is responsible for coordinating mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery efforts for emergency events in our community. Our all hazards approach to emergency planning includes threats from hurricanes and tropical storms, other weather emergencies, as well as man-made or technological emergencies such as hazardous materials spills chemical releases and acts of terriorism. Planning, continuous training and teamwork have been the key to a quick response and successful recovery from the many disasters that have impacted our community.
The Escambia County Disaster TEAM is made up of more than 90 agencies and has been recognized regionally and statewide for cooperation and leadership during emergencies and disasters.
Escambia County has been designated a “Storm Ready” Community every year since 2001 by the National Weather Service.
Reducing the effects of disasters remains a top priority in our community. Local agencies and businesses regularly participate in mitigation activities such as the Local Mitigation Strategy (LMS) Group. This group brainstorms ideas and identifies practices or projects that can reduce or eliminate damages from disasters.
